Select two of the placement dimensions Describe the two dimensions that you selected, discuss the relevance of these criteria in discriminating severity and the need for minimum level of treatment intensity. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) developed guidelines for matching clients with the appropriate level of treatment in 1996. The ASAM assessment process around six dimensions: (a) acute intoxication and/or withdrawal potential; (b) biomedical conditions and complications; (c) emotional, behavioral, or cognitive conditions and complications; (d) readiness to change; (e) relapse, continued use, or continued problem potential; and (f) recovery living environment. The approaches used to treat substance use disorders have expanded in terms of philosophy and breadth to include harm reduction approaches and the use of medication assisted therapy. Evidence based practices in prevention are also presented in the form of core principles targeting various factors. Prevention targeting various age groups and venues has also been introduced.
