SWK 540 Assignment 2: Methodology This second assignment is intended to help you narrow your project and focus your ideas. Keep in mind here that this is a proposal that you might actually use in your work. Think about it as a “baby” grant that you might actually write. Spend 3 pages discussing your methods and approach. Part 1: In the first paragraph identify three research questions that you will pursue. Write these in narrative (not bulleted) format. Assignment one (attached) asked you to brainstorm ten, and this time I want you to focus. Think about feasibility and strengths in your selection. You MUST be able to actually collect the data to answer these questions (or start to explore them) so do not think too big here. Part 2: For the second section, I want you to fully explore your hypotheses and clearly identify if they are inductive or deductive in nature. You can list each research question and then discuss the hypothesis underneath. For each research question, list your hypothesis that is associated with such. You must have at least two hypotheses for each research question but not more than three. Part 3: In the last page, spend 1 page discussing which method you will use: qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods. As well discuss if the research is exploratory, descriptive or explanatory (note: this comes directly from your literature review – if there is not much known about a topic it cannot be explanatory. What is the goal of the research? Think of it that way). Talk about the sampling and recruitment plans, threats to external and internal validity, barriers, as well as strengths associated with this design. Research methods are not good nor are they bad – the kind of design must match the intent of the research. The DESIGN MUST ANSWER THE QUESTION. That is a top area that many students and researchers miss.
