Teacher’s Overview:
This writing assignment asks you to conceptualize a research project on sustainable development as it relates to a U.N. Sustainable Development Goal
(SDG) of your choice. You will develop a thesis (a question that can be researched) and seek out appropriate sources of information about that topic. As the
title suggests, the overarching purpose of this paper is to identify barriers to reaching your SDG.

We are writing about SDG 5 and South Korea.
Please do not forget to cite your sources. Otherwise, you would be engaging in plagiarism. Use the American Psychological Association (APA,
http://www.apastyle.org/ (Links to an external site.)) style to format your source list and in-text citations. Please note that assigned course readings and the
Sustainable Development Goals Report 2021 do not count towards the aforementioned sources. However, feel free to use and site them in your paper.
Step 4: Give us your explanation/argument
Please discuss at least three barriers. You need to explain why these are barriers, and why these are critical to overcome in order to achieve the SDG. Be sure
to include a clear conclusion you are trying to convince us to accept, reasons for accepting this conclusion, and evidence necessary to support your
reasoning.
Step 4: Write, polish, proofread, and then submit your research paper
Finally, write, rewrite, and proofread, and then submit your research paper. Keep in mind that your paper will be graded upon how well you have demonstrated
your critical thinking ability as well as your understanding of course content covered so far that is relevant to what you are explaining or arguing in your
paper.
Your paper must meet the following requirements:
Word count – between 1000 (minimum) and 1500 (maximum) words excluding the reference list;
Have an introductory and concluding paragraphs (you may use subheadings ‘Introduction’ and ‘Conclusion’ but you do not have to);
Your introductory paragraph, among other things, must state your SDG and selected community;
You concluding paragraph must sum up you arguments and highlight the main take-away messages for your readers;
You must identify at least three most significant barriers to reaching your SDG and support your selection.
