Course Research Paper Requirement and Guidelines In lieu of a final exam assessment, an upper-level academic research paper discussing a specifically defined major contemporary ethical issue facing the United States Criminal Justice System is required for this class. Research Paper topic and guiding question The student should focus specifically and narrowly on the leading question: Considering the recent amendment in Texas law (S.B.11) that went into effect on August 1st, 2016, permitting the licensed concealed carrying of firearms on university/college campuses within the State of Texas, is such a law as currently used and applied in Texas or within other jurisdictions in the United States ethical? Research Paper guidelines are as follows: 1. At least 5 pages in length, but no more than 6. Title and reference pages are not included in the page requirement. 2. 2” line spacing 3. No greater than 1.5″ margins 4. Size 12 font-Times New Roman 5. Use at least 5-10 independent, reliable, credible, scholarly sources (no Wikipedia, please!) with bibliography (references). Textbooks may be used. 6. Proper citation of ALL sources using APA style 6th ed. 7. The submitted paper must be free of typographical, spelling and grammatical errors. 8. Include a properly formatted APA cover page, running head, and number the pages as per APA 6th ed. 9. Students shall critically explore the topic using the Analyzing Ethical Issues and Dilemmas portion of Chapter 1. 10. An ETHICAL THEORY from the required course textbook must be used as a theoretical framework to justify your overall paper position. This is not an opinion paper! Provide substantive, detailed, and relevant literature and data to defend your ethical position. THIS PAPER IS DUE NO LATER THAN 1PM on Friday April 22nd, 2022!!!! LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE PENALIZED SEVERELY and will not be accepted beyond 48hrs after the formal due date. 20 points will be deducted for each day late (40 pts total).
