Paper details
Write a concise research paper on one artwork you select.
5-6 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman or equivalent 12pt
Choose one artwork. Analyze the artwork using formal (visual) analysis and provide succinct and necessary
information about the artwork for readers who have never seen/known the piece of work. The purpose of this
writing assignment is to practice research and writing. Think of yourself as an art historian, a curator, or an art
policy maker. You need to provide viewers with essential information using only a limited word count.
Include one full page of visual analysis. Your research will start from visual analysis.
The paper must have an argument supported by scholarly resources. You are required to cite at least 3
scholarly resources. Citation of non-academic sources (for example, Wikipedia, newspaper article, Artsy, or
blog post) is not counted to the grade.
Practice how to use (citation) style accurately. Use the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition. See CMS Notes
