World Music Song and Dance project, as the basis/title for an Integrative World/Arts Unit.
1-Choose a world culture. The main Integrative Theme is music, but you can also include other integrative
themes, such as: “Follow the Drinking Gourd,” “The Harlem Renaissance,” or “Dia de los Muertos,” etc.
2-INCORPORATE:A Traditional Cultural Dance with directions.
3-Three other subject areas into this unit. These lessons are not meant to be taught in a day or two but over a
longer period of time—several weeks or more, as a unit of learning.
– Choose from the following Subject areas: Language Arts, Visual Art, Drama, Social Studies, Math, Science,
and of course (more) Music. You may find that one of the other projects that you have done this semester like
Piggyback Songs, Children’s Musical Books, and Homemade Instruments will incorporate well with this project.
– Each subject area should actively incorporate music in some way. (Not just use it as background music for
another activity.)
4-Thoroughly explain what your activities will be for each subject area.
Keep in mind that “’Rule of Three’ Subject Incorporation” will work well in your unit.
Sometimes there will be more than one subject area addressed, as they cross over easily.
5-Include at least 3 children’s books( put in reference)
6-Include at least 3 songs to sing or pieces for listening (in addition to the dance) that will enhance your
activities. ( reference)
7. .Use your creativity and subject matter knowledge to make this a great integrative World/Arts unit
