INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this module students will be able to demonstrate understanding, and make critical assessments of the following:
• Key concepts relating to the generation of inventions and innovations.
• Generating an environment within the firm which fosters ideation and internal innovation.
• Partnering up with firms and individuals beyond the focal firm’s boundaries to generate new innovations.
• Designing teams and organising the firm to enhance innovation.
• Capturing value from innovation through protection of IP and crafting deployment strategies
Students will develop an ability to design innovation strategies that can successfully take advantage of innovation opportunities. They will also learn how to evaluate different options, formulate and develop strategy and assess and resolve managerial and organizational challenges in managing innovation.
MODES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
• The course is based on 9 interactive two-hour lectures over 3 weeks.
• The course also includes 9 one-hour tutorial sessions scheduled after each lecture. It aims to help students deepen the knowledge through critical thinking and discussions (e.g. through Harkness Discussion). Some sessions are designed to assist student preparing for the course work.
• Some sessions will accommodate guest lectures and speakers.
• Throughout the module, students will be expected to complete the required readings before the lectures and to prepare for and actively engage in debates, queries, and other exchanges related to the topics of each session.
• All the slides and materials from class will be available electronically on LEARN.
