This paper will be on the novel Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and I plan to explore and discuss the socioeconomic and educational advancements of Esi and
Effia’s descendants and the influence of colonization on the identities these advancements create through multiple generations. There are a few questions
that I would like to address in this paper: (1) How has the system of colonization left or attempted to leave each generation of descendants more
disconnected than the previous one? (2) How did Esi and Effia’s positions and involvement with colonization affect their descendants and how does this
show within their lives? (3) How are Marjorie and Marcus manifestations of different angles of colonialization and how do their personal and educational
experiences emphasize this?
