Assignment brief:
Scenario: a client has approached to your consultancy company with regard to energy
performance of residential buildings. It appears that residential buildings built by this client
cannot meet the minimum NatHERS energy requirements across Australia. You are asked to
provide a report and recommend four passive strategies to improve cooling and heating
performance a residential building (your choice) located in Australia. You are requested to
cover the following items with specified format in your report:

Report structure:
1. Title page (subject name, assignment title, student name and number)
2. Building description:
▪ Select a real building (could be your home or workplace). A building’s floor plan
and/or images must be provided. (Maximum one page).
3. Climate characteristics:
▪ Investigating the climate characteristics of the building location (Maximum one
page).
4. Passive heating strategies:
▪ Identify (or introduce) two passive heating strategies for the building. Explain how
these strategies can reduce energy use of the building’s heating system (Maximum
one page).
5. Passive cooling strategies:
▪ Identify (or introduce) two passive cooling strategies for the building. Explain how
these strategies can reduce energy use of the building’s cooling system (Maximum
one page).
6. Project summery and references
▪ Integration of above strategies in the building given climate characteristics
(Maximum one page).
