Write a 3 page, 5-paragraph essay that compares/contrasts two sources about the same topic. One source must be from the WCC database, and the other needs to come from a Google search. Your goal is to analyze these sources (examining the similarities and differences between the two) and take a position regarding which source is the most credible. To determine a source’s credibility, use the techniques you learn from the Alternative WCA and the CRAAP test (https://libguides.wccnet.edu/c.php? g=198867&p=1308480).
Your thesis should make it clear what sources you will use. It should also make a statement (take a position) about the two sources using the three comparison/contrast items described in the CRAAP test. For example:
ï The WCC database article, “A Ketogenic Diet and the Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder” is a more credible source than The New York Post’s online article “The Miracle that Cured my Son’s Autism Was in Our Kitchen” because it is more current, authoritative, and accurate.”
For body paragraphs, use the alternating method described in chapter 7 of the OER. This approach will allow you to focus on each of the three CRAAP test items and signal the focus through a topic sentence. For example:
One reason the database source is more credible is that it is more current than the web source. (NOTE: The remaining sentences supporting this topic sentence will explain—in detail–why it is more current and even why it is important.)
You need to quote or paraphrase from each source at least once in the body of the paper, and both sources should be documented with either an APA Reference page or an MLA Works Cited page.
The conclusion should reinforce the thesis and emphasize the importance of analyzing sources before using them to share information. See Chapter 7 of the course text for more details on how to write Compare/Contrast essays.
