You will be required to interview two administrators who are involved in the coordination of school/community relationships. One of the administrators must be from a school site and the other administrator must work on the district level (in the same district). Students should spend time with the administrator discussing facets of communication related to all aspects of school community relations with a focus on ethical and moral issues. Choice of administrators may include: acting principal, school superintendent, district parent coordinator, district public relations coordinator, Title I Coordinator, district community liaison, etc. Discussions on the following concerns should be included in the interviews: What are the key ethical issues related to school/community relationships in the district? Parent/student orientation procedures: How are parents informed of student obligations and responsibilities? Discuss what you believe are the basic obligations of schools to communicate effectively with families about school and district instructional programs? How are parents and the community involved at school (decision-making, participation, leadership, and school advocacy? Are teachers and staff provided professional development related to the diverse cultural and educational needs of students and parents in the school/district? Discuss. Is there a bullying policy in place in the district? What are some of the district strategies aimed at preventing harassment, intimidation and bullying. Discuss. Write a synopsis of each meeting to include responses from each administrator. Include your opinion of the educational and ethical impact of the school/community practices. Contrast their responses. Do they promote trust, equity, fairness, and respect among the school/district and community stakeholders? Why or why not? Based upon the interview you conducted and the criteria of ethical leadership discussed in class, researched – based best practices, and information related to the topics of discussion above, write a 3-5 page narrative (with five resources) to validate, refute, or reinforce, what you learned from the interview.
