After watching the film and reading the lecture notes titled “Our Cultural Inheritance,” please post an 800
word response in MLA Style. You should write it in a word processing program (.docx, .pdf, or .rtf) and
attach the document to keep your formatting intact. In addition, this is a formal writing assignment that
should be written in essay form in your most formal voice: no contractions – don’t = do not; no slang – kid =
child, and no second person = you, your (2nd). Since this is a reflection, you may make limited use of first
person (I, me, my) when expressing your opinions. You must also support your statements with material
from the film and the lecture notes, in either direct quotes or paraphrasing, and provide in-text citations and
a Works Cited page. You can quickly learn how to cite films and lecture notes by consulting Purdue OWL:
In-Text Citations and Works Cited Page.
When planning your response, you might consider the following: Did you learn something about how Native
Americans have been treated? Do you see how stereotypes could lead to/justify the hangings? On the ride,
the group encounters many residents. Based on their treatment by mostly white residents, do you see
evidence that some of the stereotypes have been broken? Overall, do you think things have improved for
Native Americans? Should more be done to right the wrongs?
