Cross-National Policy Comparison Paper GUIDELINES:
Due date: 10/16/18
Goal(s): Students will write a research paper comparing work-family policy approaches between the United States and another country. Students should focus 2/3 of the paper in reporting and comparing policies between two nations. The last 1/3 of the paper should be spent discussing the differential consequences of these policies for employers and employees and which approach seems to be more effective. Students should focus their paper on one of three policies – maternity leave, childcare, and healthcare. Students should choose an OECD nation (http://www.oecd.org/about/membersandpartners/list-oecd-member-countries.htm) for their comparison, but that nation cannot be Germany, France, or Japan.
References: Students are required to provide citations (in-text and reference page) for all statements of fact in their papers. Students must provide no fewer than 3 sources of information. Students may use course texts as sources. Students can use both print and electronic media sources including websites. Any source, including websites, however, should be primary sources of information, such as official government webpages. Students are reminded that Wikipedia is not a primary source.
Format: Your paper should be ~6 pages (no less than 5.5; no more than 7; excluding reference page) one-sided, double-spaced, using Times New Roman, 12pt font, with standard 1” margins. Students should use either APA or MLA format for citations using the page number when appropriate.
