Benchmark One
This assignment is one of a series of activities that will ultimately lead to a project in which you
create a WebQuest. To get started along that path. During the design process you will likely
integrate some of the knowledge and resources you’ve learned thus far in this course (including
Universal Design).
This first WebQuest assignment will provide you an opportunity to define the learning activity called
a “WebQuest” and explore some examples of WebQuests in your content area.
Review the following resources to learn about WebQuests before beginning the assignment:

Finding WebQuests online
Searchable database of online examples: http://questgarden.com/search/
(http://questgarden.com/search/) (NOTE: it is common to find “dead links” to Webquests that are no
longer available) (https://sites.google.com/site/emints4me/webquest-resources)
Another source: Find your own! WebQuests are not necessarily difficult to find online….GOOD
webquests, however, are more rare and will take some effort. For example, you can search on
Google for eighth grade math webquest and you will get some results.
Benchmark One: WebQuest,
Elements of an excellent WebQuest or Constructivist Web Based Lesson Plan. These are
things to look for in making a judgement about whether the web quest you are looking at is a good
one or a bad one. Look at three webquests and write a sentence or two about each of these five
questions for each WebQuest Do not combine the three reports. Answer all five questions for each
WebQuest you review
1. Was the structure clear?
2. Was what students should do and create clear (the task)?
3. Were there at least 5 web page resources (in the process section)?
4. Creative use of instructional images?
5. Was there a clear system of evaluation?
If you have those five elements in your Constructivist Web Based lesson plan, you are on your way
to a good grade.
