MLA Format
Thus far we have read essays ranging from war memorials to grandma’s house. For this assignment analyze the essay of Unbankes, Hendrix, or Barry from
chapter 6 of our text. Why does the essay speak to you? What rhetorical modes or devices does the author employ and is it effective?Consider how these
narratives shape your thoughts on school or 911 or Elvis. Use elements from the essays as evidence for your discussion. Your paper should include quotes
from the text as support for your thesis.
Grading
An exemplary paper should contain the following;
You should clearly recognize the relationship between the purpose of the communication and the identified problem. What is the author trying to tell you
explicitly and implicitly? What is the authors argument?
Your paper should state and follow a clear thesis, using clear examples and strong language. Sentences should be clear and punctuation accurate.
An acceptable paper;
Will have a clear thesis.
Will identify some of the ideas presented
Recognize somewhat the relationship between the purpose of the communication and the identified problem
Accurately identify the main conclusion and some background information.
Minimal spelling, punctuation and grammar issues.

Incorrectly identified ideas
Failure to recognize the relationship between the purpose of the communication and the identified problem.
Incorrectly identify the main conclusion and supportive information.
Unidentifiable thesis statement
