In this first ICA assignment, compare a creation narrative from one of the following ‘religions of antiquity’ to
the Jewish creation narrative found in the Book of Genesis. You must choose a narrative from either the
Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Greek, or Roman traditions (ie. Creation by Atum). In your comparison, you will
outline both similarities AND differences between the creation narratives you are analyzing and you will use
the Oxtoby textbook to supplement your analysis. Primary sources can be located on the Fordham website
(the link is in the ICA instructions). Use the first link above to access various creation mythologies and use
the second link above to read Genesis chapters 1-3. Consider the following questions in your assignment:
How does the world come into being? From what is the world created? How does god or the gods come
into existence? How are human beings created? What is the nature of the relationship between humanity
and the divine?
