This assignment is designed to begin a critical analysis applying knowledge gained within the course. This short paper assignment is the first step in the analysis of the company that will become your final project. For the final project, you will review the human resource management (HRM) in an organization through a real scenario. This case study will give you the opportunity to explore various roles and processes within the human resources profession. A key skill for any professional working in human resources is the ability to develop and implement processes that align with a company’s strategic plan and mission.
Begin by reading the first 13 pages of the case study, A.P. Moller-Maersk Group: Evaluating Strategic Talent Management Initiatives (up to HR-Customer Initiative at Maersk), (see PDF attachment). Your submission should be 2–3 pages in length and double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font. Be sure to list your references at the end of your paper.
Specifically, I must address the following four sections of criteria for this assignment:
SECTION 1: HRM Functions and Practices: Function
Explain why the human resource function should be aligned with an organization’s strategic plan (use ideas from discussion on this topic (see attached document titled word document “discussion response). This explanation needs to be supported by evidence. Make sure that you are looking at this from a strategic standpoint. Why is it important for the two to be aligned? What happens when HR understands and aligns with the business strategy? What may be an example of this? Make sure to think about this beyond just ‘finding the right people for the right jobs’.
Areas for improvement for section one: may include connecting the ethical issue to bias, beliefs, assumptions, or values, or providing more evidence of the connection
SECTION 2: HRM Functions and Practices: Global Conditions
Explain how current global conditions in Maersk’s industry impact human resource management practices within this organization (use word document “discussion responses). The explanation needs to be clear and detailed. For this, you may need to do a little research. What was occurring during the time of A.P. Moller-Maersk Group: Evaluating Strategic Talent Management Initiatives? And/or what specifically, was going on globally, may impact what HR was doing/would need to do.
Areas for improvement for section two: Explains how current global conditions in the industry impact human resource management practices within organizations, but explanation is cursory or has gaps in accuracy
Then, using the material on recruitment strategies provided in this week’s lesson and the case study, (see attached) address the following:
SECTION 3: Staffing: Recruit
Describe how Maersk has recruited and selected new employees who were aligned with the organization’s vision and goals over the years. Assess the effectiveness of its recruitment process and determine what changes, if any, would recommend improving employee success and retention. Make sure to include a description that demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the relationship between recruiting and the organization’s vision and goals.

SECTION 4: Staffing: Candidates
Compares and contrasts recruitment and selection of internal versus external candidates in general using the Society for Human Resource Management website as a resource. Make sure this section establishes which method would be more beneficial for an organization based on the research.
