ASSIGNMENT STATEMENT
Portland cement concrete, asphalt concrete and wood are the most used materials in civil engineering. However, the construction industry employs a variety of materials for different infrastructure projects.
Working in the same groups for the laboratory reports, select a construction material that is not covered in the course content. Investigate on the production, structure, mechanical and other properties and performance of the material. Identify the most relevant applications in construction and provide examples of structures, buildings and/or components made with the selected material. Explain the advantages and disadvantages, and define the characteristics, in terms of quality control, that are important to civil engineers. Pay special attention to the durability of the material and analyse the causes for deterioration or premature failure.
